As Individualised Funding started gaining real traction 6 years ago, Manawanui wanted to understand its effectiveness and cost benefits over more traditional care support models.
We commissioned Dovetail to run independent research to review the care and support costs of clients using the Individualised Funding model (IF) versus those using non-IF funding options.
The research company found IF is more cost-efficient and more ‘stable’ than non-IF funding for similar care needs and outcomes.
Evidence also suggested IF users with high or complex care needs moved to residential care LESS than non-IF clients, not only reducing costs for the health system, but also improving the quality of life of these users.
We are sharing this research publicly, as we believe it is in the best interests of not only our clients and other IF providers, but in the interests of all New Zealanders seeking care, and anyone interested in the changes occurring in the 2023 Disability Health System Transformation.
Manawanui has subsequently commissioned or participated in other research into the costs and health outcomes of IF and we will continue to share the findings. To view the full report you can click here.
Please note: this research was commissioned in 2015, and therefore all values and findings quoted are not necessarily directly comparable to today.
