Harper loves surfing, fishing, swimming, outdoor adventures, cooking, playing with friends and whanau and most importantly ... DJing. Meet DJ Harpz.

Harper is 11 years old and lives with older sister Mia, Mum Trish, Dad Dion and Dog Tui on the Kapiti Coast. Harper was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) at 4 years old, and in 2021 Harper lost the ability to walk.

DJ Harpz has a five-year plan to become a world-class professional DJ. In late 2021, Harper began DJ lessons at the Aotearoa DJ Academy. Since then, DJ Harpz has worked hard and passionately to develop DJ knowledge, skills and techniques. DJ Harpz has had some great mentors and opportunities to play for live audiences including: Live on TV3’s The Project at The DJ’s Ball, Opening for The PaePae Soundsystem, Harper’s school discos and the FIFA Women’s World Cup at the FIFA FanZone in Wellington.

One of the key reasons Harper loves DJing is the connection with others and being part of a community. He loves getting people dancing! He also loves it that most people don’t even know he’s in a powerchair when he’s DJ’ing. Check out some pics below!

With the help of Fund For Good, Harper has purchased some professional, mobile DJ Equipment which is critical to step up to the next level of DJing and thus achieve Harper’s dreams and goals.

For the upcoming summer, Harper is planning on playing some free, pop-up, outdoor summer DJ sessions for the local Kapiti community.
